The Mount of Temptation is the main attraction for Christian Pilgrims in Jericho, particularly pilgrims from Orthodox Churches around the world who come to visit the Orthodox Monastery atop the Mount of Temptation. Although archaeologists have debated the exact location of the Mount of Temptation, where Jesus fasted for 40 days, Orthodox Churches believe the location to be on top of this mountain.
The Orthodox Monastery in Jericho was rebuilt from the ruins of an old Byzantine Church that previously stood in its place. The top of the Mount, around 360 meters above sea level, offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and the mountains of Moab and Gilead. The Mount of Temptation is located about 5 kilometers northwest of the City of Jericho.
